How Sonnentracht GmbH's foundation came about with passion and enthusiasm for organic products of high quality, and how a wide product range can be offered today.

Gerrit Lang developed his passion for bees and honey at a very young age inspired by his father Walter Lang, and worked in the apiary during his early years. Having studied business engineer, Gerrit Lang has dedicated himself to the trade of organic honey. The idea was quickly turned into a concept to found an own Bioland apiary. Thus, he was able to contribute and implement his ideas and experiences from bee-keeping to honey harvest up to filling and sales – everything from a single source.

As a young food technologist, Karin Lang became familiar with agave syrup in the mid-1990s. In a short time she created the first recipes and soon agave syrup was on everyone's minds. Today, it is a well-known mono product as well as ingredient and it is now almost impossible to be without it. Her enthusiasm for natural sweeteners grew, and thus the desire to present nature's diversity in taste and use by means of an own organic brand.

In 2001 Gerrit Lang founded the company Sonnentracht GmbH as a Bioland migratory apiary. Seven years later, the first coconut products were filled, and in 2012 Karin Lang introduced her brand “agava”. Within the course of this development, the premises were expanded and at the same time the production facilities were set up. Sonnentracht GmbH specialised increasingly on alternative sweeteners and the processing of agave syrup and coconut products. From the beginning a comprehensive quality management has been established and implemented in the course of operations. Sonnentracht GmbH is certified at a higher level according to the IFS standard. At the beginning of 2017 the production and warehousing area was expanded to 10,000 sq. m to ensure future growth. Sonnentracht GmbH produces 100% organic products. Since the company's foundation, it has been a member of the Bioland association, and since the middle of 2016, it has been a partner of Naturland as well.
