Organic cornflower honey
Organic cornflower honey
bittersweet, aromaticThe cornflower was probably brought to Central Europe as early as the Neolithic Age as a so-called cultivator with the seeds of grain. It originates from the eastern Mediterranean region. It is found mainly at the edge of cornfields and in rather dry locations as well as on sandy soils. It likes to grow together with chamomile and corn poppy at the edge of fields. For a long time it had become rare due to overfertilization of crops. It is interesting to note that it is a bioindicator, showing how much fertilizer fields have received in past years. Fortunately, nowadays it is more common again. In beekeeping, the cornflower has always been a very popular secondary crop, because the nectar has a high sugar content of up to 34%. A single flower can produce up to 0.20 mg of sugar/day per flower. In addition, it is also popular in tea blends due to its beautiful color.
